UmmahNow: An Events Calendar for the Entire DMV Muslim Community

Whether you moved to DC yesterday or you've been here all your life, everyone wants to find the local events and organizations that are right for you, and because the DC community is blessed with a vibrant events scene, organizers are always looking for ways to advertise their events to a wider audience.  Our hope is that UmmahNow DC will help meet both those needs with one simple solution: a community events calendar that every DMV organization can easily post to, and anyone can easily use to find events relevant to them.

But we need your help

UmmahNow is based in LA and already serves thousands of people in LA, SF, and Houston, and we've already gotten nearly two dozen DMV organizations to pledge to post their events to the calendar (see list below).  But to bring UmmahNow here to DC, we're going to need your help.

In order to convince UmmahNow to come to DC, we promised to get 700 people to subscribe to UmmahNow DC's weekly e-mail digests by June 15th.  Why the big fuss?  In order to properly enable a community calendar where everyone can find what they're looking for, we need to create a critical mass of committed people who will use and leverage UmmahNow's services. Eventually we hope that a lot more than 700 people will use our services in the DMV area, but 700 is a decent start.

So, please, subscribe your e-mail below, repost this link on facebook, twitter, forward us to your friends, get others to post. (Or if you need to know more about UmmahNow's services before you pledge your support, read on till the end of the page).

What do we need to do? How can I help?

Details: How UmmahNow will work in DC

How does UmmahNow's Community Calendar work?

  • Event Management: DMV organizers can post and securely manage event information via a simple online form.  No login/account required (calendar admins will filter, but any legitimate event that is of interest to the DMV Muslim community will be posted)
  • Digital Content: Organizers can share event-related flyers and video teasers as well.
  • Add to My Calendar: An *upcoming, new* feature that will allow you to add events to your own personal calendar so you don't forget about attending an event.
  • Crowd Sourcing: Community members can easily find and share events using social plugins.
  • Ears to the ground: Weekly e-mail digests about events to subscribers: because even though the calendar is great by itself, everyone can easily stay connected.
  • Non-regional events: Staying informed of both local events to Greater D.C. as well as non-regional events outside of D.C.

Other Services:

  • Ramadan Calendar: A *new* service to help you find and attend Iftar and Prayers during this special month.
  • Eid Prayer Locations: Every Eid, a map is published indicating all venues where individuals can go pray and celebrate Eid with the larger community.
  • Job Board: UmmahNow currently has a jobs board service that is extended to some service regions.. UmmahNow does not currently have plans to extend these services to DC, but would consider it if there were strong interest.
  • Additional services are continually being integrated into UmmahNow facilitating positive relationships and community dialogue.

UmmahNow's Mission:
